The anime was remade from the novels in such a way as to make it a more accessible series, and one of the ways this was done was to rebase the series around a central character, rather than sticking to the original idea of the different time periods covered in the books ...

And correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there another (further) 25 unaired eps? Were they ever made? Can we expect/hope to ever see them on a DVD release?
