If the Ranka of Hou's kirin went to Japan or China. isn't it too much that out of 12 kirins that 3 is a Taika (If Houka did went to our world.).

If you follow the book version, it is flat. It was proven when Nakajima reach the port town of Ko (before leaving for En) and scan the horizons and saw the world is indeed flat.

The character Asano and Sugimoto was added to help build the character of Nakajima before he went to EN. If they follow the book's version of the story, it whole story will just focus on Nakajima alone (too much flashback) which is very hard and dare say boring for the viewers to follow.
