If you install Defilerpak, you will be able to play just about anything. It's far and away the best filter-package out there, and works with any DirectShow-aware player (including WMP and the beloved ZoomPlayer).

Aozaru was never a main character... you can still hear him laughing and stuff in the sword every once in a while, but Youko is too much in control of her life to let Aozaru manipulate her :p

it's name is Aozaru (the reading means "blue/shadow" and "monkey"), and it's the spirit of Suigoutou (Youko's sword). It's easily my favorite character in the show, not in small part due to the incredible voice playing it. Okano Kousuke is my new favorite seiyuu. In episode 10, a bit about Aozaru is ...
