Twelve Kingdoms DVD Volume 1! Much earlier than I expected from Digital Eyes. :D

I just go home so I haven't had the chance to even open it. I'll give you my review of it soon.

I got it last week. Overall it's a good product. This DVD is missing the character introduction text that's present during the himen binding scene in episode 5, and the binding spell that Kourin is inconsistently subtitled (present in sub track, but none in the dub track).

I sure hope they don't have any more mistakes like that later on. Missing a line or making a typo is one thing... skipping very obvious important lines is another.

Mine shipped today from RightStuf. I'm glad now that I opted for two-day shipping.

O.o Crap. It's out? I guess I'll have to check the video store later. Damn Suncoast. Best Buy sold them so their distribution is all messed up. >_>

Well I can't say I'm happy about the dub. The first episode had so many inconsistencies in pronounciation. Just how hard is it to say Sugimoto? Uggh. And Keiki's voice is just off. Not terrible, but just not right for his character.

The good stuff, everything else is there and I finally get to see it on my big screen tv. I just love watching it all over again. Now things that I missed before are all there for me to rediscover. It's quite a treat. The only bad thing is I have wait for the next volume to see my Rakushun play his role. :(

No extras. Bummer.

All in all, if you ignore the dub, the R1 version does a pretty good job introducing Juuni Kokki with 5 quality episodes. The best is yet to come.

I'm not as critical on the dub as you are. It could be that I've watch enough other titles in both dub and sub format that I've developed a less sensativity to dub than you. It could be that I've heard some truely horrendous dub (Crest of the Stars) as well as some very good dubs (Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Berserk).

So as long as the dub doesn't sound out of place, and isn't stilted, it's fine by me.

I got it at GameStop today for $17.50. Only watched the first ep so far. Trying to get my husband hooked. :D

I hate Media Blasters' lame company name titles at the beginning...time to update guys...your cheesey 3D logo still has VHS tapes in it.

Personally, I couldn't care less how the dub sounds because I refuse to listen to it. :P

Oh believe me, I am as tolerant of dubs as anyone here. I like the Bebop, Berserk and Yu Yu Hakusho dubs and I have seen my share of horrible, horrible dubs. Unfortunately, this is about Juuni Kokki and I expect nothing short of perfect for my favorite anime series of all time.

But really, how hard is it to pronounce Sugimoto? :?

my expiriance has told me that the first DVD is always the worst when it comes do dubbing. TO really measure how good the dubbing will be, gotta wait for the 2nd DVD, once everyone is used to their characters

The R2 DVDs are 4,800 yen. I think I'll take the R1s.

Let's find out!

No, I won't be listening to the dub. My main complaint is that Youko just sounds like someon much older than her character trying to sound younger and just coming across as breathless. She doesn't have the same fire that the original has when she gets riled up.

Just the fact that Juuni Kokki is on DVD is a source of joy for me, but there were a lot of little things about this release that could've been better done. The menus were kind of buggy. Hit Enter on your remote right after the menu loads, and you won't be able to select any menu items unless you jump to a different title or restart the disc. The Scene Access menu looked blurry and interlaced, although the episode previews in that menu looked good.

Also, I think I noticed a slight glitch at the beginning of the ED on episode 2 or 3, but I haven't checked yet to see if it was the disc or my player. Hopefully, they'll fix all of these complaints for the next disc.

But it's worth it for these beautiful episodes. Looking over the backgrounds and the character art in these first few, I'm a little surprised at how great they look. The art budget appears to have slipped a bit after 40 episodes, even outside of the mitten-hand episode.

I've always wondered, does anyone pick up the license to release anime in Europe? I'm not familiar with European anime companies so maybe AnimeWorks has it as well? It must be expensive, since it is another region and there's that PAL/SECAM format.

I think its picked up with the dubbing companys when they get it. If anything, someone would just purchase the selling rights to sell the Dubbed version, as it would be a waste of money to redub it if theres already a dub out.

Warf@re: Know your problem...
German dubs are junk in general - I shiver when I remember the dub of the original "Star Trek"-Series...but the RTL2-Dubs of Anime are also frightening, to say the least.

Just one thing for consolation: The german Sailor Moon is not nearly as bad as the american!

And otherwise: Keep up hope that it will be better soon, and watch the fansubs ;-)

Got the DvD

Post by MegaDuck »

I got the DVD today and watched it while showing it to my little brother. I think they did a very good job with it. Youko, Sugimoto, and Asano had really Archtype voices but Youkos actress did a good job of changing from whiny to the other emotions.

I actually Liked Keiki's voice actor. I felt that he gave Keiki a little more color and emphisis. I KNOW that voice actor from somewhere however, sometimes i think Gatsu's voice from Berserk and Keiki's voice actor are the same but i am not sure. Does anyone know what other part Keiki's voice actor plays?

Have you tried to search for the voice actor's name on imdb or something similar? Or google for it.
