unfinished stories?

I just finished watching the last episode (45) and kinda felt well...unsatisified. I didn't know what to think of the end. What ever happend to Youko's friend or what about the other kingdoms? Does that mean there will be more?

This has already been a focus of discusion on this board but I'll give you the short version:

Complications arose and they more or less put a stop to production with episode 45.

There have been rumors that they might resume the series and many want for the series to continue but it's really up in the air. At the moment I believe there isn't even much talk of continuing but you never know... here's to hoping.

Well, decided against creating my own topic for this, as no doubt it's been discussed to death. First of all, I'm a total 12K n00b who basically got and watched the whole series over the last week. Fun. Found a whole bunch of resources from Wikipedia, including this forum.

I know about the whole 68->45 thing, but I'm left with one (possibly two) great big unresolved storyline/s. The first is of course Tai/Taiki. As I understand it, it gets resolved in "The Shore at Twilight, The Sky at Daybreak". Now, I also found what seems to be an ongoing TL of the novel here but it's incomplete. My questions are: Having only watched the anime, can I understand the novel's storyline AND are there any completed (English) TLs that I should be looking for?

The second possibly unresolved storyline is about Hou. Is there any explicit reason why didn't they get a Kirin after the death of the previous one? Mw personal pulled-out-of-thin-air reasoning is that The Powers That Ba decided that Kei the Revolutionary was a sufficiently appropriate stop-gap, and decided that there was no need for one (at least until he goes nutso).

Also, anyone know of a List of Characters type page? Considering that EVERYONE in 12K seems to have at least 3 names/ titles, I keep on losing track of who's Rokuta or Kantai or whatever.

Partially true. It gets continued in that book. However there was supposed to also be another volume to that story which the author never finished. ("The Shore at Twilight, The Sky at Daybreak" starts with both the emperor and kirin of Tai missing. As I understand it, that book only gets as far as recovering Taiki. Finding and restoring the emperor was supposed to be covered in that never-released sequel. We're all still hoping for Fuyumi Ono to come back to this series and finish that book.)

That book starts where the anime left off, so I don't think you should have any problem understanding it, but it looks like you will be limited to the speed at which Harunako can translate once you catch up to where he's at. I don't think there are any other translations available for that particular book. (After all, it takes a lot of work to translate a novel, so fan translators generally try to avoid duplicating each other's work.) Besides the ones Harunako has at his site, there is another translation going on (and significantly further along) of "Shadow of the Moon, a Sea of Shadows" at http://www.eugenewoodbury.com/shadow/shadow_bk1.htm

There's debate even about whether or not they did get a kirin. We know that their new kirin is not at Mount Hou, but we had a whole debate here a while back about whether a new kirin wasn't born or whether the kirin was born but is now missing. (It was actually one of several things being disscussed in this topic - starting on the second page of the thread.) I don't think that idea of Kei as a stop-gap explains it, though. Even with a new kirin, the kingdom will have to wait several years for the baby kirin to grow up enough to be able to select a new ruler. Then there's no telling how long it will take to find that ruler. Kei may work as a stop-gap in the meantime, but eventually they'll need a real emperor. They should have a three-year-old kirin preparing for when he can choose that emperor.

If there's a good English site like that, I haven't found it yet, but I haven't really tried looking much either. There is a Juuni Kokki encyclopedia at http://www015.upp.so-net.ne.jp/juunikirin/index.htm which is primarily in Japanese, but includes English as well for a lot of their entires. Character info is in the encyclopedia-organized section. Click on "word" on the left side, then on the first letter of a character's name, then (you may need to scroll up to get to the list of words) click on the character's name and it will go to info on them. For instance, there are two Rokutas in the series, so clicking "word", then "R", then "Rokuta" will, depending on which "Rokuta" you clicked, show either a picture of him, a list of which novels he appears in, some info in Japanese, and the following:

His real name is Rokuta.
He dose not have a surname.
Because he was born in ancent japan.
His family was the lower classes. The lower classes people were not allowed to have surname.
And now he has a novel nickname Baka.
Baka means a stupid person.
Baka is writen by kanji 馬鹿.
馬 means a horse. ;鹿 means a deer.
En-o sent him this nickname Baka becouse a kirin　looks like a horse and a deer and he is.....(^_^;

Ah, thanks for that, Niwashi2. I don't particularly mind having to wait for the TL of the novel, just wanted to confirm thet it is ongoing and not abandoned. I'll keep the Hou topic link aside for now, as there seems to spoilers from "The Shore at Twilight, The Sky at Daybreak" on that thread.
