keiki is one character I never understood and still don't understand. I am spooked by him, I always suspect there is a dark side to him. perhaps its because of his appearance, long black outfit, whitish pale face, purple eyes and long rough whitish-gold hair. He usually travel at night in public all wrapped up. He is mysterious, elegant (if he combs his hair), speechless, reserved and cold but unlike Sesshomaru in Inuyasha, Keiki is just not "it". I don't know how to explain "it" so i call "it" X factor!
Keiki used to be my third most favoured character after En-ou and EnKi, but after reading Shore at Twilight i placed him in 6th place because I am disappointed. I expect him to show more concern, affections and care for Taiki, his friend and student.

favorite if i think about it long and hard it would be the rat guy he just clicks with me yoko she has many flaws and seems like a real person and i can't say i like her but i'am very interested in the things she does and say the white hair guy i don't really care much for him maybe because when he's in the scenes it doesn't make much of an impact he's just kinda there when he was with the younger kid it was cute if he was written more alive i think i could like him better i also really enjoy that young empress and her kirin actually i feeel sorry for the kirin she has a temper but overall her reasons when she went to the mountains were mature p.s that from the books not the anime
the samuari guy and his kirin i like since they make an interesting pair and they make me laugh

My favourite would have to be Rakushun. He's smart, kind, cute, pretty much everything I want in a perfect anime character.

this is the hardest question ever!!!! seriously i have no problem with this kinda questions for other anime. but 12k i love all the characters!!!
i got no favourite if i have to choose who l like (in no particular order of preference - their personalities are so different it wouldnt do justice if i were to pick on over the other):
yoko - she isnt like most miniskirt anime girls who wait for guys to save her. she has her own sword and fights her own battles. makes stupid mistakes but hey dont we all. great character development.
shoukei and suzu - great character development- they turned out to b gr8 friends with yoko and so loyal and supportive of her.
Rakushun - kindest person whos always expecting the best from people, saved both yoko and shoukei from themselves - i love the way he can switch his voice from mousy voice to human voice.
Enki/Rokuta - funny, cool in a way i dont know how to describe
En-o/komatsu - seemingly lazy, i-cant-be-bothered attitude, lost a gamble in a brothel, have to do sweeping work- haha
young taiki - cutest kid!!!!! - (not the taiki in japan - he seems a bit dead)
Risai - i liked her in the anime but not too much in the books after she goes to ask for yoko's help knowing the consequences.
but shes really brave in both.
kouya - i think he just placed his loyalty with the wrong person but he's still very cool.
kourin - she's the character i felt most sorry for. it must been so tough following the orders of the emperor since kirins nature are peaceful and forgiving. the way she stood up to him disobeying his order was so brave so there would be no further suffering on either kingdom of kou and kei.
i dont know their names in english - i also like the half bear guy and the guys in the rebellion ( the big muscular guy and his friend the short hair guy who shoots arrows)
There are actually people i dont like but non of the characters in 12 k are in the category 'i cant stand them' where i actually want to fast forward to watch the next part
empress of kyou - she slapped her kirin!!!! (even if its a joke)
i know kirins are sometimes too forgiving but its just wrong to slap them!!!
tai-o : i like him in the book but not in the anime - didnt like the way they drew him at all.
akano - he's really mad - but its still sad when he .. well i know those of you who finished the anime know what im talking abt so i wont spoil the story for the rest who havnt.
sugimoto - she's really dumb - took her 10 episodes to see who's speaking the truth - too self obsessed at the beginning. but still great personality development
i know i havnt mentioned keiki - i just dont know what to think of him.
he's far too quiet!
when he does speak, he's quite blunt and honest - even if it hurts people's feelings - poor taiki crying. but then his relationship with taiki is so endearing - it shows he is capable of kindness and love - just he doesnt show it too much.

I somewhat relate to that aswell(just not in his extent

)
I especially find him interesting in "Demon Child", don't know why but in the anime when he's in our world i find him boring(guess it's also becorse of the hair)
Youko is interesting, no doubt about that. Truth be told shes the most interesting leading female character i've seen or heard off.

My favorite would have to be Yoko. I still remember when i originally started watching the series. I thought it was going to be another "girl goes to foregin land, kicks ass, etc". However as I watched the show I realized how wrong I was. What makes Juuni kokki unique to other shows is the character development but also the indepth detail of the world and the foucs on the structure which makes the series stand out. Never in any show have I seen has these combo's been done (and right for that matter). Yoko at the start is just a weak, pathetic (maybe a bit to harsh) little girl would tried to do everything to please others. However through a fantastic transformation (that didn't occur overnight luckly) we see Yoko blossom into a fantastic women, able to take care of herself and others and instead of being a follower changing into a leader (in more then one sense). I am not a female so I can't say Yoko is my rolemodel etc. However I was moved at her transformation through the series and because of that. She will always remain, my favorite character.

My favourite characters are without doubt Taiki and Tai-Ou. They had the most interesting relations, and they differed so much from each other. Thanks to wonderful-generous people who'd shared their translation of the novels, I had read most of the novels and found 'umi no kaze, meikyuu no kishi' as my favourite. The anime didnt do justice to Taiki-Gyousou's chemistry, though it's done an excellent job as an introduction to JK world. I'm biassed, but I think Ono sensei had this two characters in the center of her personal attention as well, judging from the fact that Mashou no Ko was the 'prototype' and Taiki-Tai-Ou was the only truly unfinished bussiness starting from the first book. Probably ono sensei didnt finish JK because she herself wasnt sure about whatever happened to Tai-Ou
My close-second fav pair: Enki and En-Ou. They're very attractive characters, I think it's impossible for me to dislike them. I can't help laughing everytime I watched the episode of the anime where En-Ou pretend to look 'erasou' while waiting for Taiki to fully bow to him. He seemed to really enjoy being the bad guy. Enki always scolded En-Ou and was hardly ever nice to him, but it's obvious that they're definitely one of the closest pairs.
As for Youko, it was almost like a nightmare watching her in earlier episodes. If only my friend who made me watch didnt warn me beforehand that I had to be patient to wait for her improvement, I would have stopped watching before finishing tsuki no kage eps. It's great that she changed to a much more interesting character. But still, just as Enki said in the novel, 'Keiki and Youko are both a bit too serious' to ever be my fav characters.
I like Kyou-Ou and Kyouki. Kyou-Ou's funny and cute.
Would like to read more about other characters, especially Han-Ou and Hanrin. And Sou-Ou and Sourin.
I'll go to Japan and stalk Ono sensei till she finish Taiki-Tai-ou story (kidding, dont sue)

My fav. charcter is Rokuta/Enki!! He's kawaii, playful and can be good natured at times. And he likes to eat Peaches!! Yay!! *Munches on a peach* Yum, I love peaches!! Also he's a taika just like En-ou and Queen Kei.

my favorate character has to be without a doubt Rakushun Youko's furry travling companion. Plus he helps out Shoukei the princess of Hou during her more troubled times. He is the character that I think unwittedly inflewences the queen and othhers around him very strongly.

I would have to put En - ou as the best character in Twelve Kingdoms. As his Ribi said " he reflects when it's time to reflect and he acts when it's time to act". He is wise and cares for his people a great deal. Yet he still knows how to not take things too seriously and enjoys life. Seriously, to live for 500 years and not know how to enjoy it is tough.
My second on the list is Keiki

. I wish the author would develop his character more. He is so hard to figure out.
I like Yoko but if she doesn't learn to loosen up she won't last 100 years.
As for the mouse, I like him (I like pretty much all of the characters) but can not put him on the favorite list because I'm rat/mousephobic.

Hello...new here... hope I can have great discussions about this great anime with you all...
Fav character... ehhh who else... YOUKO... She is the perfect picture of what a fictional heroe should be... flawed but brave... headstrong but willing to learn, in the begining bordering into madness but strong enough to pick herself up and become better... full of self doubt but at the same time willing to do what needs to be done, putting aside her doubts... A great role model character not only for kids but for us adults too...
thank you

There's so many great and memorable characters that it's really hard for me to pick, but if I have to force myself down to one person, it'd have to be Rokuta. He doesn't act like your typical Kirin. He's much more energetic and outspoken. Not to mention he's the only I've seen whack their emperor.
Tentei certainly knew what they were doing when they teamed up Rokuta with Shouryuu. Out of the other emperors and empresses, I don't think anyone except perhaps Youko would have been able to work as well with him as Shouryuu. I'm certain that there would be a duel at twenty paces if he was the Empress of Kyou's Kirin.

Remember that we haven't seen that many kirin. Hanrin apparently disturbs even Enki. But yeah, they're a good match. I think my favorite Enki line is when he endorses democracy. I forget if that made it into the anime; in the book it's when En-ou is telling Youko how political science in the 12K works, which I think got offloaded onto Sugimoto.

Komatsu Naotaka, Shoryu. He is my favorite. I just love the fact he is a taika from when Hourai didn't suck, and his personality. And his jokes. ^^
My second is Shokou. He's so evil, it makes me laugh. When Asano shot that brat in Enho's house, I was thinking of Shokou laughing, and I laughed, too. In an evil way.

I love evil. And remember, kids: He was just proving the heavens are not perfect.
My third is Shokei. I loved her from the very beggining. I felt so sorry for her, I even cried. "SHE DID NOTHING!", I thought. When they were going to kill her at Rinki, I wanted to swoop down, kill all of them, and then rescue her and take her home. <; She did nothing to deserve all of that. I was worried for her safety the entire time. But then she started to mature, and I loved her even more. <3 She has the best singing voice ever made! I want to marry her now.
I like mostly all characters, but I like
Tsuki no Kage, Kage no Umi substantially less, so I don't like Rakushun, Kou and Kourin much. <_< Still like Sugimoto before she returns to Hourai, though. And I still love Keiki very much, thank you! He was my favorite until Shoryu appeared. ;D As well as Taiki, Gyoso, Rokuta, Sekishi, Youka(from Mt. Hou), Chuutatsu, Gekkei, Enho, Kantai, Koukan, Seikyo, Gahou, Koshu, Seki...too many awesome characters.
I thought Asano was a great character: When everything is complete(both the novels and the anime), I'll have the anime over the novels because of Asano and how crazy he was. I just wanted to give him a hug. << And I wanted Asano x Suzu. ;-; Speaking of Suzu, I didn't like her much...until she met Asano. And when she spoke to Shokei in wild hair! D: SHE SHOULD ALWAYS USE WILD HAIR!
Aaaand no one in this topic mentioned Atsuya. I thought he was a very interesting character. The "other Shoryuu". He would impulsively do anything for his people...even rebelling against the heavens. But...was he saving those children for his pride, or was he the savior of all people? At any case, he was Shoryu's other side. I really wanted a swordfight between them in the end, shoot me.

it is REALLY HARD to pick only one character of juuni kokki, because most of them are just great, y love them!!! but if i had to pick one it would be shushou, queen of kyou, at first i didn't like her because i thought she was spoiled and she was mean to kyouki but then i saw that she may be spoiled (and a little bitchy

), but she's wise too, and knows what is best for her country, she is focused on her work as queen.
i´m reading her story right now and i like how even if she is just twelve, she is more mature than many grownups, and she worries for her country and tries to stop the bad times in her kingdom.
i LOVE youko because of her character development, and rakushun because he has that innate ability to guide others, and kantai is HOOOOT

definitely Queen Kyou. She is sooo wise and smart in a very direct way, and have a very strong heart. She is clearly not spoiled. She won't let herself lose the eyes of justice. If you've read the Tonan No Tsubasa, u know what I mean.

If there is still no translated version for Tonan No Tsubasa when I become a translator, then I will do it!!
