nahh...i don't see it as such. If she can abolish kneeling down then she can take a half-beast for a partner. She certainly has all the demons and divine creatures on her side. Not to mention that enormous blade she swings around. I mean....there's no way that En emperor has lasted 500 years without get'n some nooki every now and then.

They can have children only if the ruler/mate entered into union prior to the emperor receiving his title. At least that's how I remember Enho explaining it to Youko. Since Youko entered into her reign single and unwed, then she has to remain that way (she then mentioned that Sugimoto would have children "in her place" or something).

(but inspite of that, what if a ruler falls in love? that could make a great romantic story! and what if two rulers fall in love?? that would be really fun, i just want to see En-ho and Youko together! just for a moment, imagine Enki's face... )

About Youko and "En-Ou"...didn't it mention before that Tentei wouldn't allow that....(about alliance etc etc).
I think Youko and Rakushun is suit each other. Rakushun can be her "consort" ( they need each other).
Youko is happy with her condition now. She said that her friend (Sugimoto) will have lots of children in her place. And also "Enho" told her that all her citizen now is her children.

I think Rakushun and Yoko would prolly be the best pairing Although Yoko and Shouryu would be cool too (Except Yoko is like what 18 or sumthin and Shouryu is over 500 X__X talk about robbing the cradle )

Youko. However, words with syllables dragged out like that are sometimes shortened when romanized, like Shounen/Shonen Jump.

But after 40 episodes of reading, "Youko," I don't know if I could write it any other way. ;p

oops... trouble with the names. (hey, that's an other story! ) I've meant the Emperor of En of course. (the previous Empress of Kei has fallen love in Keiki and Keiki didn't get ill, but that love was against Tentei will in this logic.)
thinking rationally (in that world??? ) I don't think the Emperor of En is really a match for Youko. he's a lonely wolf with a great ego to me and I cannot imagine him just resting on Youko's shoulder.
(of course if he will be the ideal partner that would be a boring story, so instead of that I just want to see how terrible could it be if two Emperors are going against Tentei will just because they are in love, but I guess I will never see it.)
Keiki is just as romantic as a piece of rock, Kantai is a great and reliable warrior, the perfect general, but not a smart guy and Rakshun simply lacks the power to be nearly an equal partner for Youko. I think he will always be her best friend but never more than a "handsome pet". (Maybe later if he gets older.)
before he's shown up I was expecting Lord Baku beeing the _man_ for the Empress, but unfortunatelly he's a boring guy. (or who knows?)

Love couple: Kantai and Shoukei.
Ever since I watch episode 40 I feel there's a chemistry between them. A strong chemistry. They look good together.
Eventhough this is just an anime but I can feel the chemistry between them, just like I see it real life in front of me...
This show how good that scene is (the pic, the seiyuu).

I can imagine what happen next between them...

They're certainly quite cute together. I hope to see more of them; there are certainly enough hints here and there. Also, am I the only one who thinks they're going to pair up Sekki and Suzu?

Definitely a potential power couple - he his a political prodigy, she is confidant to the empress.

if someone who takes the throne has children, the children become immortal too rite? so shouldn't that mean the king's parents become immortal too? coz it'll b hard on the parents to c their sons and grandsons living happily and forever young n wheras they grow old n die.
n if the king's parents become immortal, wouldnt the other siblings of the king become immortal too?

rulers can't marry n hv children, but they can prolly fall in luv and hav affairs.
en-ou goes to brothels all the time n tentei isnt mad about that.
the previous kei empress fell in luv wif keiki n nothing bad happened. keiki caught the disease only coz the ex-empress was killing all the women; i dun think he caught it coz she fell in love.

so rulers can prolly hv secret affairs.

It's all about Youko and Rakushun. There have been lots of allusion... let me spell it out for you!

I would definately agree, Youko and Rakushun have the most potential to be a couple. I just cant see her and Keiki together, they are too much like siblings in terms of relationship to be romantic with one another.

Youko seems more boy-ish than when she was at Hourai,so I don't think Youko will fall in love with somebody. But if she was still the same as she was in Hourai she would probably be in love with Koukan. He's young (kind of) sophisticated and more of Youko's type. If Youko went out with Rakushun, Shoukei wouldn't be that happy. So I'm kind of in the con side about whenever Youko will fall in love.

Why would you think Shoukei has a crush on Rakushun? He's shown alot more warmth and concern for Youko.

Shoukei doesn't know that Rakushun had shown alot more warmth and concern for Youko. Another option is that she might also like Kantai (the bear hanjyuu). After all the episodes where those two were togehther seemed really romantic. I don't know what Shuokei might actually feel but thats what I think.

For some reason I can see her and Kantai as a couple, I never really thought about it til I rewatched ep 40 again.

I like Shouryuu & Youko, but am okay w Rakushun & Youko. I just cann't see her and Keiki, though.
