If anyone spoils the Taiki stuff I'm going to smack them a good one. As for Taiki aging...I don't think the contract of immortality covers Hourai. Which sorta sucks since I thought little Taiki was a lot cuter than Bad-Haircut, High School Taiki. *cough*

But I read something further up that I didn't agree with. I don't think Tentei made the system to make a perfect world. If he wanted a perfect world, he could've just made twelve Meikuns and said "Booya! No more evil." I think he created the system to make balance. Emperors are supposed to go corrupt or astray after a while. As for not noticing about the Shitsudou illness, I guess they're so far gone they can justify their actions anyway. =/

After all, you can't define good without having evil.

You know what is interesting me though....the fact that there is no ranka for the new Kirin of Hou. I wonder what happened to cause that....
"To see the world in a grain of sand;
"And heaven in a wildflower.
"Hold infinity in the palm of your hand;
"And eternity in an hour."

Hmm Nemesis may have a point.

I think Enki aged too when he returned to Hourai cause he didn't want to select an emperor.

Shinkun, I think you forgot that the Kirins keep growing until after they select an emperor according to what's been said here. Enki didn't select an emperor nor made that ceremony until he returned to Juuni Kokki with En-ou.

Now, I have something interesting. What happens in the end of the rule of good emperors? One clear example is Tatsu-ou, what happened to him? As you know the emperors receives names because either they are liked or hated. And the people remember them only as good or bad emperors from what I've seen on the series. Tatsu-ou was liked and they really miss him, and they remind Youko of that frequently.

If they are good they could rule for a long time like in the case of the emperors of En and Sou iirc 500 and 600 years. If they astray the Kirin fall on the shitsudou. It has happened twice that the emperor recognized what happened and abdicate by going to Mt. Hou and asking for it to save the Kirin. This ends with their dead like with Go-ou and Yo-ou and the Kirin survived to select another emperor.

Tatsu-ou was liked, but neither him nor his Kirin remained. If they killed him because they disliked him then he would be remembered as bad emperor. If he was tired of his rule, then he would abdicate but his Kirin would remain, isn't it? But Yo-ou was Keiki's first, so he wasn't Tatsu-ou's Kirin.

I can't dive deeper since they don't mention many of the former emperors. But, does it mean that most ot the good emperor's rule end with a political intrigue that leads to his/her and the Kirin's assassination?

Kamui, yes you're right about the Kirin continuing to grow until maturity (selection of the emperor). I had forgotten :-p

About Tatsu-ou... Very good question! I'll have to do a bit of research on what happened there. Most likely, he and his kirin were beheaded in a rebellion or something.

hmm throwing things around for a bit....

What if the people of Hou had a republic instead with people selecting the Emperor or rather no more Emperor but Officials and Ministers and Prime Ministers and Presidents.

Would Tentei punish them or is Tentei indifferent in someway to how a country is run.

It could be an experiment by Tentei you know since he hasn't granted a Ranka for the Kirin of Hou yet.

Youma on sale, a dime a dozen. I'm looking for the guy supplying the dimes.

Also, shitsudou for everyone, since they all selected the leaders, right?
