Someone on the
AnimeOnDVD forums has posted some notes on the R1 DVD release.
- The only extra is the creditless OP
- Map of Tokoyo in English in the inserts
- Encyclopedia of terms and names of youma on this volume, also in the inserts
Some oddness, though:
In episode 2, Kourin seal Keiki with the Braclet that Kou-ou give her. The binding words "My you rest at peace with the spirits of the Earth and Heavens" appears in the subtrack 2 (the Japanese dialogue sub track) but not at subtrack 1 (the sign and song sub track). Later, when Kourin re-apply the binding, both track doesn't translate at all.
In episode 5, there is a scene where both Kou-ou (Kou King) and Kourin appear, there should've been a character introduction text, but that's lacking in both sub track.
Hopefully, this isn't a recurring problem. Also the reviewer apparently got it from his local anime store. Someone says RightStuf's orders are marked "Processing" now, although I can't confirm, since the order I placed yesterday afternoon hasn't shown up in my order list yet. o_O

The inconsistent sub is a bit problematic. However, the second time Kourin applied the binding, the Chinese text were too small for them to bother with the sub.
The character introduction text is meant for those viewers who're watching the show one week at a time to keep up with who's who. The first story arc doesn't have quite the myriad of characters and title of the third story arc, so I won't worry until then.

I just bought it, it was created by Media Blasters. Yes the extras do suck, but then again they usually do on the first DVD of a series. I mean this series for all intense and purposes is little known. It hasn't even been in NewType so what do you expect. Its also a little Shoujo looking which is always a downer for the US market. I mean I know better then to prejudge, but thats the way it is. Well I emailed the distributor and asked for a job, If I get it I will see If i can get on this project and soup it up a bit!

Being a Newbie, I disagree. The more confusion in visual and language translation the less a new viewer will likely bother to continue watching. I've been rewatching all episodes to-date and find that episode 2 is packed full of visual and stated allusions to many events not begun to be explained until at least ep. 10. Hopefully the episode guides will be available soon for the uninformed fan base with a short English-only attention span. If you want to reach them, that is.
