Is the Yellow Sea immediately around the (is)land, in the land, or above it in the sky?

I think the YELLOW SEA is just a land.It's in the centre of the world,which may not above the lands around it and just because it is furher difficult to access.

I'd always thought that it was the water *around* Koukai, collectively.

But in taking a second look at the map, there is definetely the kanji for sea planted smack on the island land mass itself. So...my bad, I guess!

Also, thinking back on it...taiho are supposed to grow up taming youma that inhabit "the Yellow Sea." We get to see Taiki and Keiki tame some shirei, but they're on land when they do it.

The naming scheme is similiar to the forest around Mt. Fuji. That forest is call Sea of Trees.

The yellow sea is an ocean-less sea. It is a wasteland in the center of the JK world. It is where Youma are said to propogate.

The character for yellow is often related to evil or ominous things in Japanese.

One example is...
黄泉 <--- "Yomi" which litterally reads as "Yellow Springs" but actually means Hell or Hades.
