Does anyone have any substantive information on just how long 12kokuki is supposed to be? There is one rumour of 68 episodes, but it's an odd number and I don't know the original source point (from 2ch.net, I think).

Yes! Buying is good! The more episodes the better.

Though if they put like three episodes per DVD I'll die. :( *sits on wallet*

Well, at least they are cheaper than other japanese DVD releases. :roll: Vandread, GITS-SAC, and others: 2eps/dvd for 5800 yens. While JK was 2 eps/3700 for vol. 1 and then 3 eps/4800 and on.

ew ^^;

I wanted to know how long it was supposed to be to figure out precisely the DVD situation since MB is supposed to start releasing this year :P - I read somewhere else that the original plan was 68 but it was cut to 39; the official site lists ep39 as "end." I don't know what source states that 40 is suppose to air in July (official?). If 39 is the end, then I'd have to cut the Taiki sub-arc from my purchase since I don't think there's closure for that up to 39 (as sketchily read from the official site). I really hope for around 4eps per disc as well...

I don't think we have to worry about MB shortchanging us with episodes, if you consider their track record with the Rurouni Kenshin TV and Berserk series. We're not dealing with the moneygrubbing bastiches like Viz. :D I am more concerned about the quality of the subbing, to be quite honest. I have given up all hope for a good dub.

Compared to JK, the Berserk job was a walk in the park for the VAs. I don't think they should even bother.

As for the total series length, it's been rumored to go up to 68 episodes and the rumor about the 40th episode coming out this July is pretty reliable.

Yes, it basically says:

Starting on Saturdays in April, The World of The Twelve Kingdoms will begin airing.

Starting in July, a new Twelve Kingdoms series will begin airing.

Oh good, that's all I really wanted to know. :D I only looked at the official 12kokuki site, and it didn't have that much information (I guess official nondistro sites tend to be less up-to-date), so I inferred that from their episode listing. ::Wants to know what happens to Taiki::

Regarding this controversy, this is what I think happened:

When animehaven started JK with AC, they took it to be 39 eps total because of the listing given at the time. When Aoi took it over, they followed the same number as it wast he number listed on animenfo.com

When Media Blaster first announced their licensing of it in an interview (posted by animeondvd.com), they said that the show may extend as far as 68 eps and possibly more. Since the number 68 was given, it was taken to be the "official' number, and somewhere along the way, that number replaced the 39 initially posted by animenfo.com Since then, everyone's been taking 68 to be the official number (including me :D )

I wouldn't be too shocked if they suddenly decided to do more or maybe even less than 68 eps total for the whole series. What I'm interested in is what ep 40 will be, whether it'll be the beginning of the next arc or maybe something totally different.

I'm guessing they'll continue with the Taiki story arc
cause otherwise, they're cruel torturers!

If they don't finish the Taiki arc I'm going to throw a toutetsu-sized fit... :evil: Of course, I really wouldn't mind seeing more Yoko material either.... we'll see if 40 is completely new arc thiing.
