Kenro Shinkun from Book 2 of the anime is the same person as Kouya in Book 4 right? How does he end up becoming a god with a different name? Is this ever explained in the books?

i had the same suspicion and the book does explain how but i couldn't understand the translation fully so i'll have someone else explain how he turned into who he is

I hope someone can answer this It is really wierd because I watched disk 10 this weekend and at the end Kouya wasn't exactly a good boy - so how did he end up a god?

My Japanese isn't really good enough to read it clearly, so there were some parts that didn't make sense. It says that Shinkun is Kouya. He's a heaven's sennin who protects the security/safety of going to Koukai. Then there was a part I didn't understand much of, about a figure at the Reiken gate and armor made from the hide of an old youma. Then it said 珠晶 (pearl/gem - sparkle/crystal : possibly a name but I'm not sure how it would be pronounced) entered the Koukai from the Reiken gate praying to Kenrou Shinkun. There was a part about Tentei, and petitioning various gods to enhance a branch of the riboku on behalf of the nation of 黄朱 (yellow-red??) residing in the Koukai. [Koukai is a wasteland. I didn't think anyone lived there except for youma, so I'm wondering if 黄朱 (yellow-red) is a type of youma - like the one that raised Kouya. I'm not certain of that, though.] It concludes with saying Shinkun is a sennin with the honorary title of 神仙 (divine-sen) and he is the person who supervises all of creation.

Unfortunately, my Japanese isn't very good and so a lot of it didn't make any sense. (I'd be interested to know what it really says if anyone can translate it more properly.)

I don't know how he became a god, but at least I can identify the name.

犬 (ken) = dog
狼 (rou) = wolf
真 (shin) = truth; reality; (it's also the name of a Buddist sect)
君 (-kun) = (not sure of a literal meaning, but it's a common name suffix)

Okay i was rereading the translation about the 12 year old empress when she went to the mountains to see if she could become queen the mountain has a group of people that settle there and koyua has taught or helped them understand the youmas also he has been helping travelers that pass through the mountains so he earned a reputation and was given godhood

黄朱 is actyally the name of the group of wanderers that has no nationality. They captured ride-beasts to sell. 珠晶 is the 12-years old empress. I think her name is pronounced as Shushou.

Thanks. That makes the article make a bit more sense. (Names and other proper nouns always seem to be the hardest to figure out. A dictionary is no help there, and I can't always figure out the pronunciations just by looking up the kanji.) I wish the story of Shushou becoming queen would be translated into English.

Kenrou Shinkun is not a necessarily a god. He is however, a higher sage or sennin appointed directly be Tentei. His official task is to guard and protect the people who travel the Yellow Sea in hopes of becoming king. There are other higher sages such as Hekikagenkun Gyokuyou that serve various tasks at Mt. Hou.

How he actually obtained this position however remains unknown.
