I was kind of under the impression that they are one of the Kirin's sirei... which I guess would mean s/he(?) would eat the flesh of the kirin along with the other sirei.

At the same time though, they are kind of parents/guardians... so thats hard to imagine. I have no idea really.

I'm pretty sure it was the ruler and not the kirin who killed the nyosen on Mount Ho. In fact, I doubt a kirin could kill anyone under any condition.

I'm not certain the nyokai fall under the same category as Seirei for that purpose. While it is true that after the parenting phase, they adopt the same qualities of a seirei, they don't have the same pact binding them to the Kirin that the seirei have (via the pacification ritual).

Hard to say... All I know for sure is that the nyokai's life is bound to the kirin's in some form or another. That much is mentioned somewhere along the middle of the Tokyopop translation of Shore of Wind.
