I had the song in my playlist and my brother insisted to me that the song was in Heroes of Might and Magic IV. For the longest time, I just ignored him, but then the other day he came right out and proved it to me, and I was pretty weirded out by that, and since then I've heard of the song being used in other things too, usually with a different arrangement. Since apparently lots of people have lots of names for it, I'm thinking it must be something old and in public domain... but I have no idea what the original song is actually called if that is the case.

So really, if anyone can clarify any of this for me, I'd appreciate it.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV came out a while before the first episode of JK ever aired. And those two songs came from episodes a little later in the series. Both soundtracks were probably arranged around the same time actually. And yeah, you reached a similar conclusion to what I'm thinking is probably the case.

@Shokou: I'm well aware of that. What I'm looking for is the origin of these songs, not what they are in relation to JK.

I've tried to ask one of the game's composers about the song, but I haven't been emailed back on it. They still make music though. Rob King and Paul Romero. They did the score for Heroes V (Ubisoft bought the franchise) more recently and it was pretty good stuff too.

It's absolutely more likely than the reverse being true... what with Heroes having been made first. Since that coincided around the time when 3DO tanked, it kind of makes sense too.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there were actually four tracks which got used in both series... which really just enhances the likelihood of them having been directly related tracks rather than simply being coincidences from prior media.

Why? It shouldn't be at all surprising that they would license songs for their sound track. And it isn't like Studio Pierrot is perfect (they do the anime versions of Bleach and Naruto afterall). Not to mention, as Jinx said, Hikaru no Go recycled music from Lodoss War... Hikaru No Go being another Studio Pierrot anime. It isn't like they are somehow above reusing music. Not that there is really anything wrong with that...

Heroes of Might and Magic is a widely acclaimed series with a large fanbase. I don't think you are being very objective.
