Is anyone going to the Fanime con this Memorial Day weekend?(San Francisco/San Jose) I'm finally going to my first con, and was just wondering what others experiences with them are.

I'm also attending my first anime convention in Toronto end of May immediately after an academic meeting in Montreal.

I'm very worried and excited.

I missed the sign up for "Moonlight Masquerade Ball", a formal old English ballroom event because I was ill. I will also miss many interesting events because of my work and personal schedule.

Has anyone attended or will be attending the AnimeNorth convention? What should I expect? What events are good this year?

Go Anime North! I'm going this year and I've gone once in the past. CN anime is the usual con I hit.

What to expect? Um, large crowds, many cosplayers, Yaoi fans, fangirls, buttons, meeting cool people and losing them in the crouds, meeting annoying people and ditching them in the crowds. ^_^ Martial arts demos, card game and Igo tournaments, and much much more! there's also gonna be an Anime North/newlyweds kinda game. Might be interesting...

Hi Shusei,

I understand there will be a photo session (cosplay) for Inuyasha, Kingdom Hearts, Escaflowne etc. I am not sure if we can attend these photo sessions and take some pictures or are these sessions closed sessions reserved for people involved in cosplay only?

Did you sign up for the moonlight ball on Saturday night (27th May)? I missed it! There goes my chance of a life time to dress up like Izayoi. I love her long hair and kimono.

hm? No unfortunately I didn't. I didn't know about this photoshoot either although you can usually just stop cosplayers and ask them to pose while you take pictures of them when they're walking around...

ok, I've attended my first con. I like the artist alley most. Ended up buying a fan art of Rin and Sesshomaru. I was surprised not to see any Escaflowne merchandise or fan art. But there were wall scrolls of The Last Exile and Alvis Hamilton key chains which I thought were rare. I was very ill when I attended the con, so I missed a lot. Took lots of photos.

YAY! my first con was tons of fun, and left me broke >.< I spent a lot in the artist's gallery, visited some friends that were selling their things. I should have gone the day before though, I missed most of the bands :(
I did get to dance with the USA Matsume team though, tons of fun, and free poky, whoot!

I saw a fan art of Youko and Rakashun. Romantic sweet but I don't know why I did not buy it. That was the only 12k souvenir I saw.

Another interesting item was an elegant cross stitch of Sesshomaru, it was stitched to perfection and marked "not for sale".

I'm most impressed with the artistic talents in Canada. :D

Yeah anime North was good fun. ^-^ I was kinda cheesed that that one Youko Rakushun was the only JK fanart too. I was tempted to buy it but I already have it saved on my com because it's easily findable through Deviantart. I too spent most of my money in artist alley.

I bought several kingdom Hearts posters, the Final Fantasy VII english made doujinshi and the Bleach Doujinshi that were being sold. What else? Three pins and some FFVII Advant Children book marks. Some buttons...

Other items that I purchased included um, one Konoha and one Sound village headband (from naruto) a Konoha symbol necklace, a four piece Naruto figurine set which had one of the stands missing... I also bought Deathnote Volume 5, Tramps like us Volume 9, Hikaru no Go vol, 1 and Blade of the Immortal volume 15 which I already have so I'll have to go sell it -_- and some DVDs I'm probably forgeting something but oh well.

What else did you guys do other than shop around in the dealer's room and artist's alley? I took pictures of cosplayers and went to several panels about writer's block, plot bunnies, fanfiction, occultism and anime, and history on homosexuality and how people have come to read, enjoy and write, Yaoi, Yuri, Shonen ai and Shoujo ai...

My friend and I went to a USA Matsume converence thingy. They danced, sang, and then we played a couple games. The first one was they would give us a word, then we had to draw what we thought it was. Second, trivia, and third, they taught us how to dance and we did it in front of a crowd ^.^ I also saw a couple of neat cosplayers. One was dressed as a Sepireroth moggle, which was funny. There was also another person dressed up a Riku (KKII), and he was very pretty  I didn't get to do much else, I had to work on a Calculus project that day as well ( also my friend bummed out and want to leave early, gah)
