Taiki Arc and other issues
Please excuse my ignorence, I started this series last week and watched the 1st 39 eps in a week. Ah no life... see what i don't get is that NHK thows in a, what was it 6 eps, jmup from the Yoko story to the Taiki sotry w/o ever ending it. It would be ashame and a horrid waste of animation to have done all that work w/o actually allowing for some closure. I loved the first 39 eps... its a shame that it is over, though I still have two to watch. But what I find crazy is that the title is "Juuni Kokki" "Twelve Kingdoms" not Yoko, a day in the life of. I mean come on what a lame excuse, not maintaining the POV of Yoko... as in the story (i am a sucker for conspiracy) I think that there is something a little more fishy going on over at NHK. hum... i work in animation and this sounds like one of the normal run arounds. could be a suit thing too ( like Invader Zim). Dunno, I just want to get those last few eps and hope that more get made... I want the books too... alright enough I am done!

If what Shilahr said earlier on concerning the last novel that was out on 1997 is true, I think we can all forget about seeing any more episodes. What are the chances of a new book coming out when it's been dry for SIX years!?
If the NHK reason is to be believed, then we must assume that the production team is trying very hard to stay true to the novel while retaining Yoko. That practically rules out any form of continuation which does not follow the novel.
Sad prehaps, but it was good while it lasted

Both parts of Tasogare no Kishi, Akatsuki no Sora were published in spring 2001. Kasho no Yume was published 2001/09/05... So it's been two years now.
If it's true that they're waiting for the next book (if it's not just an excuse), then I would think that they've talked with the publisher/author first. My guess is that they've been given some kind of preliminary date... I mean, if they didn't even know if the next novel would be released within the next 5 years; they'd probably try to get the anime finished anyway. (Why don't they just co-operate with the author to fill in the blanks?

Anime future...
Good question.

Break?
I don't mind if there is a break for some time, I only hope it will continue at some point.
I think it is the anime I got most into it, I really like every thing about it... While watching the episodes I even forget that I'm reading subtitles because I'm so much into the story line.
Well let’s hope it won’t stop too soon.

Re: Taiki Arc and other issues
Not really. If you hook people in with a certain main character for an entire season, then keep her around in the second season, then drop her in favor of other story arcs, you know, no matter how good they are, that people are going to keep asking, "But what happened to Youko?"orbital318 wrote:But what I find crazy is that the title is "Juuni Kokki" "Twelve Kingdoms" not Yoko, a day in the life of. Easier said then done. As i said earlier there are a lot of things that could hav gone wrong. One actually being that the author is working with the director. The Author ususally wants one thing and the director is wanting something totally different. It seems pretty obvious who is in control, the author probably still has some sort of final say in this matter and isn't liking how the production company was planning on ending the series. Then there is always money, mind you I think this is a great series but I did notice that the animation began to fall apart in the later eps befor 39, which means the were rushed becasue of something like a tighter budget or they threw a bunch of interens on some shots. I dunno... eyes ot crooked and the chracters seemed to slide of model.Silmarian wrote:(Why don't they just co-operate with the author to fill in the blanks?)
In my idea ,since the writer has been writing for 10 years ,I don't mind whether TV would break for some time. But,the only hope I could hold is that it will keep at a high level just as the first two scetions.I wonder if anyone else had found that the picture seemed to not as well as it used to,espicially from the third scetion .I wish it could do better in the future.

BIKURISHITA!!!
then people until there....mata oaitashimashouka ne!
I am the "kirin" of anime files^_^!!
I would like to say that since JK is based on a series of novels, it would be quite realistic to not see Yoko appear in all the novels. After all, the JK world is very big and there are plenty of stories to go around. Yoko just basically concentrating on running Kei and I personally think that wouldn't make a very interesting story at all...
I hope JK doesn't stop here and never start off again. It would be a shame to never see an animated version of the Taiki arc...

It's true that the 12k world is pretty huge and it wouldn't be unreasonable to phase Youko out of the storyline - but for the anime-watchers (especially those with no experience with the novels), getting attached to a specific main character makes it a little more difficult. Even if it's mostly Youko running Kei, there's still room for 'international' relations with trade and such.
As per the Taiki arc specifically - that would almost definitely need some air time for Youko, since it would involve Sugimoto (possibly Enki since he goes there more often). Well, it would be an awful shame to not give Youko good air time in it, anyway (great opportunity). If they could just tie up the Taiki loose ends - I'd be happy with the 12K world overall and can leave it there. ^^;

OMG!Ostsol wrote:Well, I could see them releasing OVA series to finish everything off, treating them more as "spinoffs" of the anime. ("Spinoffs" because they don't deal with Youko at all.)
I hadn't thought of that at all. That is VERY possible. Oh great Tentei in heaven, I hope they do that. That would just make my century.
In terms of spin-offs and OAVs, there are so many things that are left untouched by the anime. The death of Hourin, the revival of Kou, not to mention individual stories on each of the other 10 kingdoms (Kei and En are pretty much well covered). The problem is that, like the animators said, creating deep thinking and well-developed characters to match the way characters are done in the novels. If they go ahead and just make up their own stories and throw in their own ideas of character personalities and behaviors, I don't think it's going to work very well and they (the animators) probably know that as well.
Though I love JK as much as any next person on this forum, would I push for spin-offs and OAVs that doesn't follow the tradition of beautiful storyline and overwhelming character developments as we have seen in JK since ep 1? gee... I wonder.
Would YOU?

First off, wasn't Hourin killed during the uprising? I remembered distinctly and clearly that she was ... silenced.
Anyway, Juuni Kokki finally finished it's run. Not to offend the forum gods.... [edited]

whats the status now
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and just read that JK got cancelled. Now, there are a lot of posts, some telling the exact opposit than other posts. may i ask what the official comment on further episodes is?
and if i may add some of my thoughts. I love JK, I love the story, the mythology and the charakters, I love it all together. And I am sad that they will end/pause after ep 45. BUT I'd rather wait some months, even years if the manage to create new episodes in the same quality even if we don't see Youko again. Of course I like her (well, the first few eps she was so annoying...) but I want further eps keep the quality and to keep it they need to stick to the books and if Youko doesnt appear in the books anymore thats fine - they will introduce new lovely characters.
the important thing is that they continue to make new eps based on the novels with this quality we are used to

You should check the DATES of those other seemingly contradictory posts about the series length (which is what I'm assuming you're talking about). There will only be 45 eps for now.
I don't mind if they stop the anime right there (assuming 45 has good closure; but still really want Taiki) - but now I really want the novels. Well-translated novels retaining most of the original terminology! Garrr...
