Japanese level of the novels ?

Discuss about anything related to the Twelve Kingdoms, also known as 十二国記, Juuni Kokki or Jūni Kokuki. Talk about the novels, the anime, the writer Fuyumi Ono or illustrator Akihiro Yamada, but beware for spoilers!

Japanese level of the novels ?

Post by Danodare »

Hello,

what exactly is the literary level of the 12k novels ? Would a motivated student with a good dictionary find it unreadable ? I know about 1000 kanji very well and a lot more not very well.

Thanks in advance,

Ok i do not know the answer to your question but i think i know someone who does. Go to this site,

http://people.cornell.edu/pages/kf49/Tw ... s/menu.htm

This is the site of a guy who is translating the novels into english. Either E-mail him or post a message on the foram and he will know how complicated the novels are.
If your spirit has wings to travel, even across the breadth of a thousand million nights, imagination will guide the way and the gateway will always be open to you.

u can't read it with only the knowledge of a 1000 kanji words.. On the average, a daily eng book you read everyday of the same level as the 12k novel will contain at last 3000+ different words
