Ideas for Fanfiction
Now that all 10 of the DVD's are out I have seen the full story of the Anime version of the Twelve Kingdoms can offer us. With that in mine I started to wonder what questions we can somewhat answer with fanfiction. What kind of stories do yiu want to see in Fanfiction.net's area for Twelve Kingdoms. I have already undertaken my idea. What is yours?
i love to hear stories about other countries before and after youko's rule...since we dont know anything bout some kingdoms, you could make ur own story...im planning to write some also (my perfect kingdom) after my exams over...
mod maybe we could have fanfiction section in this forum?

I am already currently writing a story, it is on Fanfiction.net. It deals with Kou and Ryuu starting about 10 years after Youko assends. ^_^
I was thinking it'd be neat to see a story about Kei set way back in the past. It came about when I was trying to figure out a possible personality for a Kei Rin and seeing as I don't imagine Youko will die any time soon, I figured a past fic would be best suited, but I don't think I'll write about it.
And for those who aren't able to read the novel's It'd be nice to see some more stories about Taiki and how he returns to Tai. Or even just some stories about Sugimoto and Taiki trying to figure things out. Because the series went in a slightly different direction by ading her into the mix there's so much you could work with (note that I am not exactly advocating them as a couple I just think we could get some really great stories out of them ^-^)
I'd like to read some good stories about all of the kingdoms but I would also like to read about Mt. Hou and it's keepers...
Those are just a couple thoughts I'd through out there but I'm also working a fic or two of my own.

Poss. Idea
Back on Earth Sugimoto gets investigated by the police because her friends keep disapearing.
Hmm.. How about events happening back in school? Like how Youko or why she had a crush on Asano or why Asano likes Sugimoto.. despite her being unpopular in class.
or how Youko handled things being a class monitress, classmates' teases and stuffs XD before she landed in the 12k world..when she was still a shy, timid gal.

another site ...
hi there,
I've got - for the time being - no great idea for fanfiction subjects - but I want to add another proposal: Seems like the fanfictions written about Juuni Kokki land just in fanfiction.net
Honestly said, I don't enjoy fanfiction.net very much - their sites are not very elegant and searching for special authors, series and so on is rather uncomfortable.
Because of that I'd propose to publish 12K-fanfics at www.moonromance.net
That site has started years ago as fanfiction site for Sailormoon.
But by now, they've opened it to other anime serials as well - so if there are enough send-ins, they might be persuaded to open a department for 12K-fanfics as well.
Just a proposal, please don't hurt me ...

If my English and vocab is good and the idea well developed enough, I'd give it a shot. I wouldn't want to see it become some sort of crapshusei 2 wrote:Good idea. Go write a fic about it right now. ^-^
@Bluelion- That site's not bad and has a pretty nice layout.

I'd like to see a fic about Shouryuu's first few weeks or months after he arrives in En. He's just been thrust into a world that's completely unfamiliar to him and been made emperor of a large portion of it. He has some leadership experience, but it consists primarily of having just watched his entire clan get annihilated as soon as they were placed in his care. To help him he has a thirteen-year-old kirin who is himself not much more knowledgeble about En or the world it's in than Shouryuu himself is, who has never served as a Saiho before, and who has some serious doubts of his own about whether an emperor would help the country or just destroy it further. Together these two are tasked with taking a completely devastated country which has suffered through the reign of a brutal tyrant and then a very long interregnum, and turning it into a prosperous kingdom. Where do they even start?
I can't write a fic about this myself - in part because it would require a better writer than I am, but mostly because I haven't come up with an answer to that last question. I'd sure love to see anyone else's take on it though, if anybody has any ideas.
(We can know a little bit about the country twenty years later from Higashi no Wadatsumi, Nishi no Soukai, but only the first few chapters of that are available in English, and all it has of the very beginning of Shouryuu's reign is a few brief flashbacks.)

http://www.otyaku.com/animeObserver/juu ... S_menu.htm-- Do you want a kingdom?
Rokuta asked this question to the man. But the nation was turned upside down, and there was virtually no land or people for the man to rule over.
-- If so, I’ll give you a kingdom.
I want one, the man replied without hesitation. Now this man was sinking in thoughts while seeing this ruin. He would have never dreamed of such desolation.
Will he sigh? Is he mad? Rokuta thought as he looked up to the man. The man seemed to sense Rokuta's eyes on him, and he turned back to Rokuta unexpectedly, laughing.
“What a splendid view of nothing.”
Rokuta only nodded.
“Reviving a nation from nothing, huh? That's a big mission.” the man said, as if he didn't feel it difficult at all.
“If there is nothing to begin with, that means we can do things in our own way. That would be much easier to work on, wouldn't it?”
The man raised his voice and laughed, as if nothing had ever happened.

(waves) Hello bluelion-san! Great idea. As far as fanfiction story ideas, there's a lot that could be worked, but the issue that right now fascinates me is the topic of immortality, and how other people can also have it beside kirins and rulers (the sennin). There can also be explorations of the first years of Youko as Queen. There's also a couple of kingdoms awaiting for kirins and kings like Kou and Hou, so anice epic story could be done around this.

Re: another site ...
I've always sort of wondered just why it's as broadly given as it is. The reason given as to why a kingdom is better off if its ruler is immortal has to do with maintaining continuity and stability. I might see a similar argument for granting it to a few of the other top officials of the kingdom. But how would that make it necessary for low-ranking servants in the households of minor provincial nobility to also be immortal? I would think peasants would be far more important to the stability of the kingdom than household servants are. It seems as though assigning someone to the rolls of sennin is given out almost randomly to whomever some noble feels like giving it to. Wouldn't that create discontent amongst everybody else?Mercury Omega wrote:the issue that right now fascinates me is the topic of immortality, and how other people can also have it beside kirins and rulers (the sennin).
Have you seen Celestine's "The Shadowed Land, The Northern Arrow"? It's an excellent story about the new young kirins of both Kou and Ryuu. But certainly you're right, that it would be nice to see more fics about this. It's a broad enough topic that it would be nice to see a number of different authors' takes on it.Mercury Omega wrote:There's also a couple of kingdoms awaiting for kirins and kings like Kou and Hou, so a nice epic story could be done around this.

People like reading or writing fanfiction for a helluva lot of reasons. In my particular case, I write when I feel I have an idea that hasn't been adressed in the canon story or that it could be further explored within the canon. I'm partial to canon or Alternate reality fics as oposed to self-insertion, crossovers and alternate universes, but those are very popular genres.
The universe of Twelve Kingdoms is so expansive that in a sense it's almost like a MMMORG (Everquest, etc) so allows the freedom to pretty much explore all the kingdoms and its dynamics. The character development of the story in itself is wonderful and a good character author can work along those lines and build interesting pieces of character portraits.
What qualities do I look for in a story? Besides the standard requirements of good spelling, grammar and good use of vocabulary (I point this because lately many authors sadly feel spelling and grammar aren't important and whoever reads their story will overlook these flaws just because their story is so good), I look for originality in the approach or idea. It can be an almost cliched subject, but if the author manages to give it an original spin, chances are I'll read the story. Twelve Kingdoms' fanfiction is incipient if we compare it to the larger fandoms like Gundam and Sailor Moon, but I've noticed that already many authors are going along the themes of pairings and comedy. In other fandoms I might look for specific pairings and I'll admit I'm partial to the Youko/Rakushun one, but right now I would really like to see subjects like the growth of Youko as a ruler, her interaction with the other kingdoms, the fate of Kou and Hou, will Taiki ever return and what relationship will he have with Sugimoto, etc. I mean, just having Youko having to adapt from a 21st century lifestyle to a sort of Middle Ages one is an interesting subject for a character study.
Right now, this fandom offers authors endless potential for great stories. Just imagine Blue, someone like Chaos-sama writing for Junni Kokki; my mouth waters over the mere possibility of a story so engrossing like the Dreamworld for Twelve Kingdoms.

I hear ya.
The possiblities for JK fanfiction seem nearly endless. It's both very exciting and somewhat intimidating for those who plan to write for the series.
Anyway, I figure I'll try to write a majority of it before I post anything that way I'll be less likely to discontinue the story. I'll be able to gage whether or not I can actually write what I'm planning.

Yeah, I'm thinking of writing a fic say about two years after the end of where the series left off. (Fourth/going into the fifth year of SekiRaku). I want to address the aspects of alienation and racism within Kei, and if at all possible, I'd like to work in a little RakushunxYouko if the fic permits it. Not sure if I'll be able to write it as it would probably be a fairly big project from what I'm thinking and it might be too much for me to handle with my current writting skills. If attempted an epic before and it overwhelmed me, though I'm still trying to work on it...There can also be explorations of the first years of Youko as Queen.

New Fic!
Hi all, I've just posted a fic about Kei on ff.net, here is the link if you wish to read it: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2575111/1/ Let me know what you think, thanks!

Speaking of fanfiction, I've seen several anthologies based on JK such as those on jpqueen.com (link below) and was wondering if translations are available for them.
