Finally Twelve Kingdoms Boxset 1!!!

Post by Santoryu no Zoro »

I've waited so long for this, holding out on the dvds just so I could get the box set. The first one is going to be released later this year in September. I can't wait!!

Great news there! I'd heard a long time ago that a box set had been planned, but it'd been so long that I thought they had scrapped the idea. Still, I held out a little hope and actually never ended up buying the DVD's. Now I know the wait was justified. =D

Very good news. Though I did already buy all the DVDs, I'll probably be buying this too and selling my existing DVDs to a friend.

I thought I saw something like this on Ebay recently! I always wondered if the subbing was good on the US versions.

^^ Well, I'm pretty sure they haven't been released yet, so the set on Ebay is probably bootleg. And regarding the subs, they are official and almost always better translated then any fansub out there.

The translations on the DVD are consistent. I've found that the fansubs can be inconsistent with flashbacks to earlier points in the series (translates the same phrase different ways, but mostly say the same thing). The DVD doesn't explain as much either that can confuse people (I.E., the word "kirin" is similar sounding to the word for giraffe in Japanese and that Soukyaku (sp?) are people brought to this world from China), but I have found that the fansubs can sometimes explain too much at points (I.E., the fansubs explains that Sekishi (sp?) means "red child" before Youko gains the throne, which I beleive we're not supposed to know until some point after Youko gains the throne). Also, there are a few translation errors on the fansubs that are not on the DVDs (First episode, Keiki doesn't say "Close your eyes and have faith", he does say "Don't close your eyes and have faith" or something like that...).

So overall, I'd say they are about equal, with the official subs just ahead of the fansub that I watched because of minor spoiler reasons. The lack of explainations for a few things in the official subs, I believe, really are very minor in the grand scheme of the story. Although I do love reading the fansub notes about how things correlate to Japanese history in the series.

The subs I had were from Anime Coalition and AnimeHaven for episodes 1-10, Anime Coalition and Aoi-Anime for episodes 11-17, and the 12K-Translation Project for episodes 18-45. These all came from the same batch of torrents, and I do not know about the history of the fansubbing of this series (you may find it by searching around on this site). The changing of hands may explain the inconsistencies.

The box set contains discs 1-5 (episodes 1-22, I think)

hyd probably means the format is a hybrid dvd.. though i don't know.

I had just (or will when they ship) blown over $500 on anime five minutes ago, $165 of which are going to this and this, which will come out November 15th.
:D

I'm not excited. Nope. And it's not a waste of money. Especially since I already have the individual DVDs....

If you're interested in what was the rest of the order:

Kino's Journey: Complete Collection (4pc) (Sub)
Haibane Renmei:Box Set Vol 1-4 (2005)
Crest of the Stars - Complete Series Set
Berserk - Season One (The Complete Collection)
Now and Then, Here and There (Complete Collector's Boxed Set)
Grave of the Fireflies (Collector's Edition) (1988)

I pre-ordered both, although amazon is quite expensive. dvdempire still hasn't shown the preorder for the second one. I know I'm crazy, just because I already have a copy doesn't mean that I shouldn't get another one. Cd's get scratched ya know. ^__^ That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

when it comes to anime, 5 discs for 75$ isn't too bad, in my opinion.

I've compared amazon.com, buy.com, dvdempire.com, rightstuf.com, and some larger corporate stores (BestBuy, Suncoast, Barnes and Nobles, Waldens, and Borders). $74 is the cheapest I have seen so far. You might be able to get some at local small businesses that are willing to sell for cheaper in hopes of greater quantity.

Ah, the advantage of having a salaried job... $10 per boxset is not much for me to worry about... :) Helps when being lazy.

That and I do like being able to track my purchases... ;)

Did I mention that I'm lazy?

Plus I did look around here and didn't find anybody that knew they were selling it.

amazon still has box set 1 at 75$, and it's no longer a preorder. but yeah, 15$ a disc isn't half bad for an anime, where discs usually are in the excess of 20$

I am a little disappointed that there isn't just one boxset, or just selling of a separate box for my already purchased DVDs. Also that it will only be DVDs and nothing else. Not even some cute pics. Even so, I can't complain much.

Did anyone get receive the first box set yet? Mine is still in the mail. >.<

Mine is in the same state but up north...I'm about to die cuz it hasn't reached my local post office...I just wanna get it.

I'm just surprised that they didn't put different artworks on the box. You know, those same pics for some of the japanese dvds.

Actually, no, just the first 22 episodes. A second boxset for the next 23 is scheduled to come out in November 15.
