Inconsistencies ...

Post by ckrisz »

This bit threw me when I was watching JK for the second time ... the first inkling we get of the third arc is when some court official suggests that Gahou replace Koukan as Lord of Baku Province in Ep. 22. However, right after that we see Seikyou telling Youko that Gahou is basically a bad guy who oppresses the people and covers his tracks, and that she shouldn't replace Koukan with someone like that. But ... isn't Seikyou the guy behind Gahou in the first place? Why is he basically working against his own plan here?

Also, I noticed in Episode 26 that Shoukei and her escort from Kei Province to Kyou were attacked by a pack of flying youma, despite repeated assertions that youma never attack in groups.

Seikyou is covering his tracks - he is making Youko think he is suspicious of Gahou. That way if Gahou is guilty he can fall back on that conversation and claim innocence. In the meantime he can continue to control Gahou and collect his kickbacks.

I think those flying youma do hunt in packs. They keep talking about youma that plague the coastlines of Ho, Tai, and Ryu. Maybe when a kingdom is in a bad way with a weak, oppressive, or absent king those kind of youma group together into packs on the coastlines and cut off the country? Otherwise they hunt singly.

Seikyou could be covering his tracks, but it's an odd way to go about it. What if Youko had taken his advice and not removed Goukan, or at the very least not put Gahou in Goukan's place? Or even started an inquiry into Gahou?

I'll have to check my DVDs again, but it certainly could be a translation error in the dub ... perhaps King En did say only "this type of youma" as opposed to youma in general.

They explained it in the anime that Seikyou was covering his tracks like that. I think it was stated in that conversation Youko had with Enho and Koukan.

As for youma. I thought it ment that they don't attack in groups with a leader. And not different types of youma together. the birds - koucho attacked without help of other types of youma.

Kokan and Youma

For the issue of Kokan, the idea of Kokan removal is pretty much the main idea but replacing Gaho is a risky move as Gaho's reputation will soon or later reach Kei-O. However but saying he has bad reputation but no evidence against him, he places himself as a good official and still control Gaho. In short a nice little drama in front of Kei-O. Anyway, Seikyo can find someone else to take over Baku State and he still need Gaho to control Wa State (Too many dirty works to be done there).

Some youma attack alone or packs, but seeing so many youma in a city and in the country of En is very unusual by any standards. Thus cannot be attributed as a ordinary youma attack.
