Mythology related question:

Post by Kelem Kilnarak »

Hi. I, ah, am a n00b thing -- to the forum and to the series. I was only recently able to see the first few episodes of the anime, so that gives the extent of my knowledge there. I found the youma designs very interesting, however, and wondered if anyone could help me out in gathering some of the mythology behind them: in particular, those wolf-dog-things? I can't remember their name.. The ones that cried like babies?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the wolf-or wild dogs are called Kiki.

In regards to the mythology, just look up Chinese mythology that should help you get a feel for where the creatures are coming from but the creator(s) anime wise try not to rely on traditional mythology. They use it more as an inspirational point but they're supposed to be original creations more or less.

Mm. I've got a couple searches up on that, although I'm not coming up with much.

Do you know (or anyone, for that matter) if the part about their cries was based on traditional mythology, or something that was added in by the creator? That was the main point I was curious about.

Hm...Sorry. Don't have a clue. The director never made mention of those sorts of details in the DVD extras...
