Discuss about anything related to the Twelve Kingdoms, also known as 十二国記, Juuni Kokki or Jūni Kokuki. Talk about the novels, the anime, the writer Fuyumi Ono or illustrator Akihiro Yamada, but beware for spoilers!

By the way, I'm doing an analysis assignment on juuni kokki, anyone knows what's Asano's full name?
*wouldn't want to waste a new topic* C=

Maybe I'll add a good review after this assignment. C=

According to IMDB: Naoyuu Asano

And this surge in the rankings is largely due to the moderators on AnimeNFO removing some of the silly "This anime roxxors!" with 10 rating in everything reviews that many of the top series have an abundance of. Juuni Kokuki was ranked 31st when I first started looking there.

Gotta give props to the moderators there for their hard work. Running such a site is not an easy job by any means.

Bwa... Here's the link on imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327386/

First I see: Yûji Ueda .... Naoyuu Asano (voice: Japanese version)

Further down I see: Joshua Seth .... Ikuya Asano (voice: English version)

How strange. Anime News Network says Yuji Ueda as Ikuya Asano and Joshua Seth as Ikuya Asano.

Then I would say that imdb is possibly mistaken and Ikuya Asano is his full name.

ADD: And to confuse things further:
http://www.japan-101.com/entertainment/yuji_ueda.htm
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/kei-kun/seiyuu.html
http://www.filmweb.pl/12,kokuki,(2002), ... m,id=95682
and many other sites say Naoyuu Asano.

I'm sticking with Ikuya since the official US site says Ikuya..

Ikuya and Naoyuu are such a huge difference in spelling & pronounication, I wonder why it's confused.

My guess is that either of those would be possible pronunciations of the same kanji, but I can't confirm that without seeing how his name is written in kanji. (My name dictionary lists 37 different kanji spellings for Ikuya - too many for me to go through them checking whether any of them could also be pronounced Naoyuu.)

Wildly different pronunciations for the same kanji isn't unusual. For an example from the show's character names, "Naotaka" and "Shouryuu" are both written with the kanji 尚隆. Figuring out how to pronounce names is one of the most confusing parts of Japanese.

And to get it back on topic, 12 Kokuki has leaped up past Naruto to claim the #18 spot.

Not that it's really a big deal. All the anime on that top 200 list have their good parts and is a good starting place for newbies to look.

Looks like my guess was wrong. That says Asano Ikuya, and it doesn't look like Asano Naoyuu would work as an alternate pronunciation of those characters. (According to my kanji dictionary, 郁 could be pronounced "iku", "aya", "kaoru", "i", "ka", "humi", or "yuu", but it doesn't list "Nao" as a possibility, and 也 could be pronounced "ya", "e", "nari", "ka", "mata", or "shi", but not "yuu".)
