JK Favoured Lines

Post by Shusei 2 »

I've been following the thread that talks about why we each have come to love the Twelve Kingdoms and one of AliceC's comments gave me an idea.

I thought It'd be cool if we could all talk about our favorite lines, or quotes from JK. It's a common cause for discusion but I thought we could go a little more indepth than just throwing the words out and saying who said it. I think it'd be interesting to look at why we are drawn to particular lines in the series.

Often I find it's when someone's speaking with morality and/or logic but it's our emotional responses that give quality to these words.

On a sudo similar note, I've always found the scene where Rokuta asks Shouryu if he wants to become a king very beautiful, very moving. Both of their stories are tragic. It's hard to describe it in words-scenes like that. They're so humane and intense and you just connect to it.

(interesting to note that he tentatively offers and then gives Shouryu his kingdom as oppossed to Keiki, who more/less forced Youko into hers.)

Haha, you got this to me before I did (actually, I haven't searched to see if someone did this yet). Best quotes. Oh, so many. Can I pick more than one?

These are some of my first quotes:
"If nobody cares if I'm alive or not, then at least I will value my life."
"If I don't trust him, he can't betray me."
"All you people taught me...that we all live for ourselves. After all, no one can live for someone else. That is why...I'm going to live for myself."
---All by Youko.

I felt these lines touched upon people's apathy towards life and how sometimes, people become more cruel and cold towards others. This is how they feel that they are being treated, either through others' ignorance, betrayal, or stereotyped attitudes.

And these conversations was so powerful for me..
The Monkey from the Sheath (M) and Youko (Y) conversation:

"M: Are you a fool? That rat saved you so he can cash you in later. He wasn't trying to help you out.

Y: It doesn't matter if he wasn't. He still saved my life, and that will never change.

M: He tricked you into trusting him! He's going to use you. And he'll betray you in the end!

Y: I don't care if he does. If he betrays me, it will be his shame, not mine!

M: But you won't survive without deceiving others!

Y: I won't die and I won't be a coward, either! I can't trust people if they're not sincere? I can't be kind to people if they are not kind to me? That's not true. Whether I trust others or not has absolutely nothing to do with how they treat me! You're right after all, I am alone. And that's why I'll make my own decision! No matter how bad people treat me, or how many times I'm betrayed...I'll still choose to trust people!

M: You'll die here! You'll never go home! No one will care about you! People will lie to you and betray you!

Y: I don't care what other's think! I'll be kind to people because that's what I want! I'll trust people because I want to!

M: You will die!

Y: Get out of my way! I've got to find Rakushun! I'll survive"

This obviously followed up on the earlier quotes. It also made me think of the saying "first time shame on you, second time shame on me," except it overturns it. This conversation was vital to the storyline and important in teaching people the idea of truly being sincere. There will always be cruel, crazy, mean, and horrendous people, but that does not dictate how we treate others. If you are sincere and get betrayed, it is the fault and shame of the one that did the betraying, it should not change the individual being true to herself. Actions are actions, even if someone betrays, it cannot erase all the events that happened before. It also warns that a person must choose her own life and actions, and take the responsibilities for them. To continue to be kind for kindness sakes and not for reasons of showing off or gaining favors. True kindness, sincerity, and compassion.

Okay~ I'll stop for now. I wrote a little too much (I think).

This part was exactly where I got totally hooked to the series. :D Some other parts I like was where Youko thought of her past- she wanted to draw the flower but ended up drawing the mountains instead because her teacher told her so. It really got to me deep.. cos' sometimes I'm kinda like that  ^^''

Seishu's words got to me too. {no time to type more now x(} The scriptwriter/Ono Fuyumi must have really been through alot, to be able to come up with conversations/events with such depth.

I'm not too good at remembering lines - but this is what I liked:

When Taiki politely asked the Nyosen to ignore the rules and eat with him anyway and Yoka was so happy about that.

Rakashun and the teacher-dude telling Youko that she is the queen. If that didn't give her a heart-attack she'll probably live to be a 1000. :D

Shoryou's speach to Kouya, both in the dungeon and after Atsuyu's death. I think he knew Kouya was an unstable 15-year-old even though he had been a senin for 10 or more years, and the big-brother talk was - well - brotherly.

I remember one after all - maybe my favorite - "It's okay if you take off the clothes Rakashun." Too funny!

I agree with Juna-ling that Juuni Kokki is so well written, I believe the anime staffs and directors worked with Fuyumi Ono sensei throughout the entire thing. It says soooooo much that so many people can connect to. When a lot of people diss this show, I merely say that they're just afraid to face the truth, that this is who we all are deep inside. >.<

What nightchaser pointed out was also an important aspect of Juuni Kokki, there's humor. Life is hard and no one is perfect, but there is always an upside to things. The part of taking off the clothes was hilarious, with Rakushun's cute hesitant response of that its okay. And along that lines, when Youko found out what Hanjyuu actually meant, ehehehe, I had a good laugh. At myself as well for not thinking about it.

Lol. Yes, Yes. Good lines ^-^ I always enjoy the scene where Shouryu tells Rakashun he can still remove his clothes if he wants. The Nickname bit was also quite good. It's so interesting whenever the story takes us to En. That Kingdom always has such a unique and positive energy. (It helps when the King's been on the throne for over 500 years but you know what I mean.)

I think that probably the most memerable line or rather speech was during the end of the second last arc-the lead up to Youko's renouncement of prostration. Very good. Very moving. Equality's good. (Wish I wasn't brain dead right now. Would have liked to have a more intellegent discusion about that scene)

The best line of all was when En-ou was carrying Baka (umm... I mean Rokuta  :D ) out of the provincial palace's tunnel and he turns his head a little and says "...and don't ever make me worry about you like that again." The look on Rokuta's face was of such relief - he finally, after all those years, realized he could trust En-ou. And En-ou wasn't saving the kirin of his nation, he was saving a friend.

Oh, that scene almost made me cry. So many scenes in Juuni Kokki brings tears to my eyes (even when I just think about it). Some bittersweet, some sooooooooo touching, and other's so sad. Like..this one:

Rakushun and Youko conversation:
R: You are far away from me right now.
Y: That's discrimination...
...
R:Youko...
Y: I'm not far from you, it's your feelings that went far away. There are only two steps between you and me!
R: You're wrong.
Y: I'm wrong?
R: That's three steps for me.

Isn't is cute?? Oh, so cute. Another one (which I have yet to copy down~bad alice, bad~) is the conversation when Shouryuu and Rokuta were on the boat, the acceptance of the throne. "You will carry the hope of the people, and I will carry the weight of the kingdom. " Oh, sooooo good. And when Shouryuu was saying that he cannot make the kingdom worse, I just broke down along with Rokuta. Ah, so very very good.

Yes! Yes I love those lines. I don't know how many times I've watched those scenes. (Not quite enough to be able to say them from memory but give me time) The novel version of that Rakushun and Youko scene's also incredibly good. I'm not sure which I like better.

I became an avid SekiRaku fan as a result of those lines. (Of course that scene where Rakushun gives her advice in the nude helped my love for the coupledom ^-^)

Oh yes, the nude scene. Hehe, if I wasn't such an sucker for wanting to keep Youko as she is, I'd be a big fan for that coupling (but I'd rather keep Sekishi as she is now, with more growth of course...well, anything but marriage). That scene made me both squeal and sob. I love Rakushun. He's so great. He even admits to his own flaws and the fact he admits that his intentions wasn't that pure in the beginning. Ah, love him.

Nothing can top a well written declaration from Youko, addressing her first decree and lectured her kirin. In my opinion that scene where she gave the ministers and her kirin about people treating others with respect. That scene is very touching to me because not only it shows that Youko had mature, but also to a point where everyone realize that she is a great Empire.

I don't know anyone else can recall this but to be a great empire sometime you have to judge your kirin advice because the kirin is a caring creature so sometimes their advice is not the best. A great Empire must distinguish when is the right time to listen to their kirin.

In Youko case, she gave her kirin a lesson about politeness and respect.
The look on Keikei face is priceless. He realized that Youko is the right and a great Empire.

That scene is so well put together.

R: "Don't turn around, I'm kind of exposing myself right now."

Y: "!"

R: "Hey, I can't help it, my arms can't reach that far!"

*chuckles*

"Did anyone ever teach you how to raise your hand? Did anyone teach you how to walk? *sits down* Transforming is a natural ability for a Kirin. Even if i will explain to you how, you won't understand"

"Alright now. it seems that i am really a useless Kirin. I'm sorry if i have disturbed you"*runs crying*
I shall never leave your side. My eternal loyalty, I pledge unto you
