Perhaps Taiki already played matmaker
Okay - it's an old trick - guys bring their little sister/brother to the park and get the other teenage girls to fawn over the cute little darling. I think that's why Gyousou took Taiki on the Sugu hunt
I also wonder if Taiki felt so strongly drawn to Risai not because he really liked her as a friend, but because he sensed (was directed to sense by Tentei) that she would be a part of Gyousou. It turns out she may be the one that saves his life ultimately - or at least puts into effect the events that return him to the thrown? Anyway, a lot of rambling to say that I think, in some small way, Taiki sensed that she would be a queen to Gyousou's king.

I can see that, I can definitely see that. Hehehe. Or little brothers and sisters tries to get someone they really like together with their older sibilings by hanging out with them and always talking about them.nightchaser wrote:Perhaps Taiki already played matmakerOkay - it's an old trick - guys bring their little sister/brother to the park and get the other teenage girls to fawn over the cute little darling. Wow, that would be a rather interesting interpretation. Then everything really is in the grasp of Tentei, even relationships. Kinda freaky then if you think about how it would play out... Tentei controls all!!! Still, I think they'd be cute together. A nice balance and at least a capable queen.nightchaser wrote: I also wonder if Taiki felt so strongly drawn to Risai not because he really liked her as a friend, but because he sensed (was directed to sense by Tentei) that she would be a part of Gyousou.

Youko meeting with Rakashun, in my opinion, was definately Tentei's doing. He helped bring her back from the brink of destruction, then stayed with her as a friend (I'd like to see it go farther
). Then Rakashun also met up with Shokei in Ryu and helped her in the same way. I wondered if that was Tentei looking out for the daughter of one of his kings (as a favor to that king - even if he did go bad and die) and looking out for Queen Kei at the same time. Eugene Woodbury is translating "A thousand Leagues of Wind" next on his site, and one thing I am wondering about is if that meeting is in that book or just the anime.

Well, there is the saying that there is no such thing as coincidence, although how to interpret it as some other power or human intentions (since Shoukei and Youko had to consciously make the decision to be friends with Rakushun, listen to him, etc). I felt that Fuyumi Ono is putting a lot of emphasis on individual decisions, choices, and actions...whether or not there was some heavenly help. I say this because she had Rakushun, one of the most influencial characters in the story say "If you study hard, you'll pass your exams, if you work hard, you'll have money. Why pray to gods?" Kind of turning the whole idea of praying to god will bring you whatever you want on its head. Eugene Woodbury does great translations.

Well, I think all Tentei did was present a situation. He put Rakashun in front of Youko and Shokei. It was then up to those two girls to take it from there. But my point is it looks like he is involved and does create situations. But you are right, it is ultimatesly up to the indivudual to act on the situations. After all, the Queen or King is asked if they accept the offer. Of course, refusal to accept has it's consequences, but so does accepting.

Well, it really goes down into how Fuyumi Ono is trying (IMO) to show how people need to take responsibilities for themselves. Whether of any religion or spiritual beliefs (or lack of), individual decisions are the most important.
If Tentei did put these events together, people should not depend on Tentei to make everything work out. People have to work at what they want to make it all develop.

The other nyosen were teasing Youka about Gyousou, but I don't think there was anything really going on
It sounded more like teenage girl-talk. Plus it was a way to tease Taiki about his favorite nyosen. I loved his reaction about it - that was too funny! And when they caught Youka in Gyousou's tent I couldn't stop laughing!
yah...i was laughing about it too....ROFLMAO....nightchaser wrote:The other nyosen were teasing Youka about Gyousou, but I don't think there was anything really going onIt sounded more like teenage girl-talk. Youko and Keiki -- There is definitely feelings between them. From what I pick up from the anime, Youko loves keiki ( the ways she look at him ). The relationship between them will always be an empress and her kirin.
Shoukei and Lord of Kei ( the guy that killed her dad) -- I think they make a cute couple.

Yes, king of En and his kirin are friends/partners at work. Youko and her kirin are more like master-servant relationship. Keiki will be afraid of relatioships with women for a long time to come after what happened to his previous queen.
In the book Shore at Twilight (Chinese online translation), we read more of Kei-Ou's relationship with her kirin after the animated series end. Keiki and Youko's relationship is "cute" in that book. This is one reason why I hope they continue with the animation. I want to see how they interprete Youko's relationship with Keiki in Shore at Twilight. Perhaps, if you read the story in Japanese, you may have a better understanding of the relationship but I cannot say my interpretation is accurate. Reading the book, I do think Youko loves Keiki but not vice versa.
