Kirin of Hou

Why is there no kirin of Hou? If the previous Hourin died (three?) years ago, shouldn't there already be a new one? Kourin died recently, and there's already a ranka for the new Kirin of Kou.

Or is there a new kirin of Hou and we just haven't heard of him/her?

My guess is that we just havent heard of it or something, this series likes to jump around a t times.

Perhaps I'm misremembering, and I havne't taken the time to double-check, but I recall seeing in one of the recent episodes a scene in front of the tree where they mention that the egg for Hou's kirin hasn't showed up yet. I suspect that it takes a while for them to regrow, since otherwise we should've seen one popping up back during the Taiki arc.
