Twelve Kingdoms Book 2, Sea of Wind due out in October?

Post by animeisha »

Well, it's not official because Tokyopop's website says nothing about it, nor does Amazon.com, but Overstock's website says that the Second book, entitled "Sea of Wind" will be released October 9, 2007!

http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi ... rod2345379

I hope this is true, to be honest, I was kind of thinking the first book wouldn't sell enough to warrant them translating the second, but I'm glad it appears they are. Wish it would come out a little sooner though, like this summer...

Also, the title is a good deal different than any of the translated titles....do you guys think this will be "A Thousand Leagues of Wind, the Sky at Dawn", becuase that's what I'm thinking... I think it makes sense that they'd release the Youko story arcs somewhat together.

It seems like release announcements aren't usually made more than 3 or 4 months ahead of time, so who knows if it's true or not? But I hope so.

It probably refers to "Sea of Wind, Shore of the Maze". This would be the 10-year-old Taiki's story.

I think the first novel did fairly well. It even sold out at Amazon and they had to order more. Of course, I have no idea how big their stock was to begin with, but I'll take it as a good sign anyway :D

From what I've heard and read, they will be releasing all seven novels in the series published by Kodansha, and they will be releasing them in the same order as they were originally published. I don't see the point in their having licensed all seven, but only releasing a few. If they did do that, it could be breaking the licensing contract anyhow. Ono sensei wants to see her books in English, as much as we do. So, the aforementioned Sea of Wind is Kaze no Umi Meikyuu no Kishi (Sea of the Wind, Shore of the Maze), the story about Taiki and the enthronement of Gyousou.

Can't wait! 8) Is the new book going to continue the story of Yoko? Or when you say 10-year-old Taiki's story it's about a new character? Sorry I haven't read the translations or watched the anime yet. :?

Yes, Taiki is like Keiki, i.e. he's the kirin for the kingdom of Tai. Unlike Keiki, though, he's only 10 years old when we first see him, and his hair is black instead of blonde.

He's mentioned briefly in the first book, because by the time Yoko arrives on the scene, he's gone missing.

I hope it would be "kaze no umi~" and I'll get a copy of it.

Btw Ret, you're Retroo, one of the amazing people responsible for the translation of kaze no umi (the one we have on internet, of course), right? Wonderful job, smooth Japanese-style-English, I just feel it's so close to the original novel's feeling. Please forgive me if I'm mistaken and you're not him/her.

Amazon has it listed for March 2008, if you want to pre-order this early

It is going to be Taiki's story, so that is cool.

Oh... too long to wait! But as long as it's coming, it's okay :D

Yup, looks like you're right. And right on the "one-volume-a-year" schedule that I've heard was planned. Slightly frustrating, if you ask me... :)

There's no mention on TOKYOPOP's site, yet.
