And thus the first DVD has been announced....

Looks delicious. :DD! However, 5 is better than 3 because can you imagine the price tag if it were 3 per DVD and it runs for say, 60 episodes.
Either way...I'm really glad that they kept Akihiro Yamada's art for the DVD cover, and made it look good with the border. *joy*

Go towards an unpredictable world...
Not trying to start a flame ... really
I've never heard tell of a problem with DVD video quality. (Unless its 40+ years old) A DVD is more then enough to fit in 5 episodes on 1 DVD.
They only put 5 or 6 on the first DVD to get people hooked. Then they can afford to drop one or two episodes to strech it out and make more money. With Berserk they had the first one with 5 episodes then the following dvds with 4. But I wouldn't expect 5 on every DVD.
The only real thing I can see a problem with is voice actors for the english dubbed. But most people dont and wont listen to the dubbed anyway. The subtitles will be done by the pro's. Anyone that complains about them being wrong, either doesn't know what they're talking about or thinks they are better translators then professionals that do it for a living.

Now thats a crime. 75 minutes for 19 dollars via DVDPlanet? Can you really justify that? [Mind you -- Retail Price: $24.98]

my computer sony 1.06s dvd player is easy to fix , i can reset the lock ever now and then..
but the crappy other one I have doesn't have such a thing...
This doesn't ruin my life though as I need a new tv before I can beat my pc monitor
Anyhow as of yet, the ones I'm trying to get hold of without being dubbed are here and there, now and then and twelve kingdoms...
which I intend to own to support their work..oh and Haibane Renmei cause I'm a sucker for that stuff
shoot me.

I don't think I'll be preordering the DVDs for this -- too long to wait. I'll plunk down the extra few bucks to get it at Best Buy or Suncoast or wherever the day it's released, at least for the first one.
I'm not worried about the quality. MediaBlasters did a pretty darn decent job on Kenshin, with only a few overlay SNAFUs that I can recall. I was hoping that they'd be the ones to get it, if anyone. And just think, if they can get the piles of extras they get for the Kenshin discs... mwahaha!

Eh. . . I thought the Berserk dubbing sucked. Rickert sounds like a whiney little girl (yeah, the Japanese voice talent is female, but that's normal for young male characters and it sounds a heck of alot better), Griffith is too monotone and forced, etc. . . Come to think of it, the only dubbing I enjoyed for an anime was for Mononoke Hime. . .
Those are just the two I mentioned. I thought that every bit of dubbing from every character sucked.Semmemon wrote:He was in his mid teens and a minor character at that. Him and even Griff isnt enough to say it totally sucks dubbed.
Of course, I may be totally biased from having watched the original Japanese voice acting, first. . .
It ends up being pronounced way to many different ways to make a diffinite decision on which is "right". I've heard Guts, Gatsu, and Gatts. They should have kept Gatz's japanese name and not turn it into Guts. That was lame..
"Gatsu" sounds like the result of the apparent tendency for "u" to occasionally be added on to some names, in spoken Japanese. An example in Berserk would be Casca's tendency to pronounce Griffith as "Griffissu" (or something like that).
My own belief is that Guts and Gatts (Gatz, Gats) are closest. Sorta like the lack of distinction between "l" and "r" in Japanese, the pronounciation is something between Guts and Gatts: different ways of pronouncing what is in reality the exact same name.
Hey all.
Question for you, as I'm sure that some of the folks who're fansubbing (or their intermediaries) do read this forum.
Now, keep calm, this isn't intended to ruffle any feathers as I'm genuinely interested, and when I searched the forums I didn't see any answers.
Since The Twelve Kingdoms has been licensed (and the first two DVDs announced), why is the series still being fansubbed? isn't that against the "Code of Ethics" that binds the fansubbing community?

I've seen the first story-arc and up to episode 16, when it was licensed, and nothing past that. (I've grabbed the big poster calendar, and the OST from a local anime shop, though!
)
Anyways, I'm honestly curious as to reasoning behind the continued fansubbing, when it's now gone from a nebulous gray-area to a quasi-illegal area.
no flames, please, I'm a forum-war veteran, so I've got flame-resistant undies on (and the kevlar helmet is for any curses flung my way
).
Thanks for any insights!

That's just it, I don't know the answer to the question, which is why I asked, and I tried to ask in the most polite way I could, so as not to get anyone riled up.Janster wrote:why ask questions you already know the answer of...
huh?sigh...I guess some can't help themselves...

hmm... where'd you get 2 + 2?Acerbia wrote:Let's play put 2 and 2 together.
You know it's been licensed.
It's still being fansubbed.
Maybe it means someone really frickin' likes it.
I only see 1 + 1 in that post unless my math skills has really degraded.
