How do you get a 80x80 6K avatar?!

Post by JK Newbie »

I have torqued and squeezed a picture I like but Photoshop won't take the jpg lower than 8K at 25 DPI or even 16 bit.
PS - any chance my other message from earlier is answerable? :-)

Try IrfanView: www.irfanview.com. When you save a file you can enter an options screen where the compression level can be altered and other settings changed. With save quality at maximum I can get an 80x80 pixel image to around 8 KB. With save quality at 80% the same image compresses down to 3 KB. 24 bits colour depth in each case.

I don't think phpBB really cares how big (in resolution and file size) the avatars are. Go ahead and try using the avatar you have atm.. if that doesn't work, link the avatar off from another file server.

When I try to upload the picture even at 8K it refuses saying file size must be 6K or less, I know not all file sizes of a type are read the same in a given system, darn electronics. Doesn't linking to a server cause problems for the site, besides, I would need walk-thru instructions how-to (my server tech knowledge is under construction.)
Also, I tried a GIF and got nasty warnings. Only JPG allowed? Anybody know where to find or have some JK avatars that might work?
Many thanks for helping a Ranka  [/i]

Got my graduate degree, still paying for it...

... so no college access.
Are most of the avatars in the forum linked? Still checking into application suggested earlier. One can learn to live without, as well. Whimper.
