I really love the music for this anime. The opening song is also played in the trailer for the show, and I think that music was the biggest draw to it in the first place, before I'd seen the show to find out what a good plot it has. So I would probably never have found out what a good show this is ...

Could you post a plain wallpaper version of this? I think it's beautiful. The background is great.

Only twelve kirin in the world, and three of them are Taika. Isn't that an awfully high percentage? Mt. Hou must be subject to Shoku pretty frequently.

Bringing him back to Kei would also kill him because only Senin can pass through Shoku.
I don't really understand this part of it. Why does Taiki have to be a Sen'nin in order to pass through a Shoku, when other people don't? Kaikyaku are ordinary humans who get blown from Hourai to the Twelve ...

Re: Worth purchasing this series?

I'm aware of how acclaimed this series has become and now with the releases of the two premium sets I have recently been pondering whether they would be worth buying,
Yes. I certainly think so. It's an excellent series. (Of course you know you're asking a biased audience here. )

Well, the book does say that "that Saihou finally died at his thirties without choosing an emperor", but it might be a bit of a jump to go from the statement that he died while in his thirties to to deciding he died because he reached that age. kirins ages and timeline: http://www015.upp.so-net.ne ...

Re: Kirin aging

I thought this might be important because Kirin have a natural lifespan of the late-30's. The Enki before Rokuta died because he could not find a ruler before he reached that age. So if a kirin looses his ruler, he starts to age and eventually reaches 38,39 (whatever) and dies.
Well, the book does ...

Now if only there's a Juuni Kokki manga.
Well, there's "Twelve Kingdoms - Anime Edition", a series of 15 books classified as comics on Amazon, which presumably means it's a manga based off the anime version of the storyline (though I haven't seen it, so I'm not certain). Go to http://www.amazon.co ...

Also, kirin are placed with a ruler very young (Sairin was 8, Taiki was 10) and expected to work. You couldn't do that with a human child of that age - the maturity would not allow for hours of concentrated work.

Do they? We only saw two kirin as children, and they both matured at the same rate as humans, but they were both taika and growing up in their human forms, so it's hard to tell how much that changed things. We know that normally kirin grow up in their kirin forms, but ...
